A beautiful and highly unusual pair of vintage Venetian grotto style headboards by Hille. They were made in England, they date from the 1930-50’s.

They have a wonderful and whimsical design, they are of outstanding quality. The solid wood is carved into a huge pair of scalloped shells, with acanthus leaf carving towards the lower section. They are finished in off white / cream paint and have gold accents throughout.

The condition is very good for their age, with just some minor surface wear and some very tiny cracks appearing at the top centre. They are completely sturdy and solid, with no movement to the frames whatsoever. Each frame also has a built in light fitting under the top curve of the shell, they would need to be re-wired to work.
