A stylish and iconic design, this is the Hilleplan sideboard, designed by Robin Day in 1952. This example dates from the year 1952, it must have been among one of the very first made. It has an early Hille badge in the top drawer, and there is a utility furniture stamp on the back. 1952 was the last year of the utility furniture scheme in Britain, which makes it possible to date this exactly.
It is very well made, with a light and elegant design. This has a carcass made from Agba wood, the doors are elm, the drawers and handles are walnut.
We have had this stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is superb throughout.
